Kerry Madsen rocketed to victory last night (27th Jan) amongst the very best Sprintcar Drivers in the nation take his third consecutive Australian Sprintcar Title for the Bob Gavranich owned Keneric Racing Team .
Madsen driving the immaculate American Racing/Keneric Healthcare/DanielTrucking AUST #1 KPC crossed the line at Mt Gambier’s Borderline Speedway well ahead of James McFadden and Matt Egel in what can only be described as a powerhouse display.
Madsen drove a superbly calculated race.
Starting out of position 3 he allowed James McFadden and Jamie Veal to duke it out in front of him for most of the 40 lap race.
With 8 laps to go, judicious planning and perfect execution came to the fore and Madsen swooped in like an eagle and gobbled them both up.
Matt Egel drove a stunning race coming from P10 in the Downing Brothers orange S97 Cool to arrive home on the podium in 3rd.
Egel mostly ran the high line – within inches of the Borderline fence he looked nothing short of spectacular.
The event was relatively smooth with only two yellows in the 40 lap final.
Multiple lines of racing were apparent.
The first yellow was for Robbie Farr on lap 2 – in an uncharacteristic error Farr clipped the tractor tyre out of turn four and damaged his front end, forcing the Q7 infield and took no further part in the championship race.
The cautions also came out 6 laps later for Chad Ely and Glen Sutherland when their two cars came together. Both retired as a result.
