Last weekend saw Kaiden Manders stormed to victory in the 2017/18 WA 360 CI Sprintcar Title at Manjimup Speedway.
Adrian “Hollywood” Haywood was ultimately awarded 2nd while 3rd went to Michael Keen after a perceived in-field pass by Keen.
Manjimup is a top setting and is unique in that it is the only track in WA that is not set on a pure horizontal surface…believe it or not, the straights have a shallow incline….. and the clay is a non-traditional light grey colour.
Manders showed maturity beyond his age by setting Quick Time (14.512 sec) then winning his first heat by over 3.5 seconds in the J&S Drilling Team W60 entry.
Continuing the strong performance Manders started form P6 in his second outing and was able to fight through to come a very creditable 3rd.
In the 25 lap feature Manders started on the front row. He was jumped as the green dropped by Adrian Haywood who lead for 2/3rds on the race.
It was then Manders made his move and shot past Haywood in a brilliant thrusting move.
Manders continued to maintain his lead and crossed the line to a massive ovation from the good sized crowd.
The J&S Drilling Team now head to Perth Motorplex this Saturday night for the WA Open (410 CI) Sprintcar Title. Can Manders make it two championships in essentially one week????
Peter Roebuck got some awesome photographs at Manjimup – a unique track set in rural WA around 3.5 hours south of Perth. Here they are for you:
