Well we know many of you out there are desperate to know what happened at this year’s Lucas Oils Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.
So we have pleasure in providing this very quick report to give you the basics. We will then follow up with a detailed report with stacks of photos in the next couple of days.
Tonight (Jan 22nd), James McFadden (W17) won “The Classic” in front of a lock out crowd and under prefect weather conditions.
It was his first Classic and the Milwaukee Tools/Monte Motorsport Team’s 6th Classic.
McFadden took victory in the grandest of style – never putting a foot wrong and driving faultlessly through heavy traffic.
Up till lap 27, the race ran non-stop and the 24 cars were well spread around the track. This is where McFadden was smart and maintained a policy of keeping a car or two between him and the second lead car.
In the last 13 laps there were three stoppages that helped “reset” the traffic jam.
Following McFadden across the line (only 1 second behind) in a stunning, determined and popular drive was local peddler Darren Mollenoyux (V52) who shot past Tatnell with 3 laps to go, and despite extreme pressure didn’t yield.
Tatnell was 3rd followed by Brad Sweet, Kerry Madsen, Luke Dillon, Kyle Hurst, Ian Madsen Steven Lines and David Murcott rounding out the top 10.
As indicated above, a detailed report with be provided in the next couple of days.
