“Straight Shooter” – Peter Roebuck

Peter Roebuck is one of the longest serving WA Speedway photographers around today and has stirred our senses with great images over the years.

Peter is one of very few lens pros who have the skill, determination and capability to capture quality action Speedway shots using the technique called “Available Light”. Peter basically lugs around a lens that has a massive diameter to let truckloads of natural light in – and he needs a forklift to fit it to the camera, its a monster as you can see from his profile shot.

But that is how Peter gets those ripper WA racing images – no flash and using only available light at the time.

I am sure you will agree Peter’s service to the industry is unparalled and the shots he gets for us ooze clarity and detail —–  detail that would perhaps otherwise  be lost in flash photography. And…he is the only pro lensman who gets the colour of that glorious dark Kwinana Clay spot on too !!

We had a chat to Peter recently and while it’s extremely hard to choose his best work (it’s all bloody good !), Peter has supplied the following images that stand out in his opinion.

I am glad Peter did that, cos we couldn’t make up our mind and had over 800 shots on the layout table in front of us that we couldn’t separate.

Well done Peter, and thanks sincerely for all your hard work and devotion to Speedway in general and Sprintcars in particular.

Your efforts add to the fun and experience in a huge way !

Let’s take a look at some of those special moments that Peter has captured, in both Sprintcar Racing and other Speedway classes.
