2013 Knoxville Nationals Blasts Off This Week

Well the time has come !

In just a couple of days time, Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, USA stops the world with the running of the 53rd FVP Knoxville Nationals.

The Action kicks off this Wednesday 7th August at the famed “Sprint Car Capital of The World”.

Knoxville Raceway is a semi-banked, 1/2-mile oval of glorious high quality black clay. It is renowned as the best track on the planet. The track is located at the north edge of Knoxville on SR 14 (located on the Marion County Fairgrounds). Click on the following link for the map:   http://tinyurl.com/kg4u3p6

The long standing track record of 14.407 seconds was established by Australian Brooke Tatnell way back on May 6, 2006.

Wednesday’s opening night sees the commencement of action with qualifying and heats.

Thursday will see the second grouping compete for their qualifying and heats. Both nights will see an A and B Feature to conclude the evening.

Friday night will carry over the new format trialled in 2012 where the top 4 finishers from the A-Main move into P17 to P20 in Saturday Night’s Championship Final. Friday night will also consist of qualifying, more heats and a D,C,B and A-Main. Also on the Friday program is the SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge – an International Invitational Event where racers must have completed in nominated Blue Ribbon events in Australia, Canada and New Zealand over the last 12 months. This is the very fitting Finale event for the night.

No surprises for guessing what Saturday is all about !

An E,D,C, B and of course Championship Final decider will be run, resulting in the determination of the 53rd Annual FVP Knoxville Nationals Champion.

Who will it be?

Donny Schatz has won an incredible six of the past seven Knoxville Nationals titles; an event that pays $150,000 to the winner.

Can Schatz win his seventh crown? He’s leading the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series with 13 victories, five of which came in July alone, and he charged from 13th to second on Saturday night in the Ironman at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. He also won both World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events earlier this season at Knoxville.

Donny Schatz is coming on strong at the right time of the year and is a big chance for the 53rd FVP Knoxville Nationals

Other in-form Drivers include Darryn Pitman who leads the World of Outlaws points score going into the running of the Nationals, Paul McMahan, Craig Dollansky, David Gravel and Kerry Madsen. But having said that, the 2013 competition at the World’s biggest Sprint Car Event is just that – WORLD CLASS !

Any one of 50 Drivers has an equal chance of winning, and then those outside that are not far off the mark either. It’s all about good prep, good driving, staying out of trouble, a bit of luck and car set-up – the Team that gets it right for the last 10 laps wins !
