Torque Tube Takes a Break – BUT STAY WITH US !

As the 2012/13 season in Aussie mainstream Sprintcar racing comes to a close, we see Northline Speedway in Darwin ramping up for their “Dry Season” in Top End. A massive car count and some very handy Drivers will make the Series something to remember.

By way of salvation the premier KRE Engines Series in Brisbane winds up on the 15th June. Leading the charge in the pointscore is Andrew Scheuerle on 831, followed by Todd Wanless (797) and David Muir (739). Who will win?

Well its been one helluva season and Torque Tube will be taking a brief winter hibernation. We would like to thank all out valued viewers – a viewer count that keeps growing week by week and peaked at record levels in April with over 30,000 individual views in the month.

But having said that DON’T stop checking e www.torquetube.com.au.

We won’t leave you completely destitute, as we will be posting the occasional article of interest and even some old historical stuff from the now defunct tracks – Claremont and the Melbourne Speedbowl. That will keep you happy over Winter !

THE ROAD TO SUCCESS - DATA AQUISITION AND INTERPRETATION AT ROLLING THUNDER RACEWAY

Plus we were recently invited to a very, very special test session with a handful of Sprintacr techno-gurus at Rolling Thunder Speedway (Bacchus Marsh – VIC) to witness a vastly new approach to Data Acquisition in Sprintcar Racing. These guys have a dedicated Sprintcar that has truckloads of sensors and load cells smothered all over the beast to capture movement, velocity, GPS positioning, attidude and position in general, and stresses and strains of every single vital aspect to a Sprintcar, They even have a pressure sensor under the hood to see what happens there with different bonnet profiles and air intake apertures.

All data is acquired through an array of load cells and sensors and then downloaded after the run into a laptop

I gotta tell you it was mint ! ….and it takes Sprintcar Racing into the 22nd Century  — while others are screwing around with just shocks and engines, these guys have that and over 50 other critical aspects covered. The data is enormous and the car is a computer and command system on wheels.

That was the preliminary test day, and Torque Tube are advised by the owners of  “The Project”, that we will receive a special invite to the next test day in a few weeks time.
