While a lot of us were fixated on the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic on the East Coast, Sydney Speedway had a washout and Ryan Farrell’s unbelievable run continued when he won another feature race at the Perth Motorplex (Sat Jan 26), taking the 25-lapper from Ben Ellement and Carl Dowling.

Farrell started on the outside of Ellement and watched on as the #44 machine powered away early.

There was plenty of drama early on as Jason Kendrick’s crew was forced to change an engine and ran out of time to get onto the track.

An incident on the back straight forced a restart allowing Kendrick to resume in a full restart but his challenge proved to be over quickly as he crashed out with Jamie Oldfield.

Farrell showed plenty of patience, marking his time and running a slightly higher line than Ellement but as they were fighting for position Jamie Maiolo, who started from the back of the pack, had raced through and grabbed the lead.

Not long after Maiolo lost ground to Farrell who set sail for home and wasn’t challenged from that point. The battle for second was on in earnest between Ellement, Dowling and Maiolo until Maiolo blew a left rear tyre. Ben Ellement crossed the line in 2nd and Carl Dowling came 3rd.

“Ben was really strong, he was good early and we were bad early,” Farrell said.

“It was good to lose the start tonight and have to chase.”

Ellement said he was getting sick and tired of finishing second.

“We are persevering each week and it doesn’t count yet, the money races are yet to come,” Ellement said. “It’s great to race with guys like that, we could have been a little better there. We will come back and have another crack.”

Dowling said the car was going strong but said due to work commitments they were not able to do enough shows to qualify for The Chase.
