360 All Stars – Tyson Perez Memorial this Weekend

Release compliments of the 360 All Star Team and Mandy Searle

The running of the 3rd Tyson Perez Memorial event will be run at Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier on February 2nd. For the 2nd year in a row Lucas Oil Products have come back on board to support this event held in honour of their friend ‘Spud’. This season also sees Mt Gambier’s own GT Bobcat also support the memorial event.

“We are so excited to have Lucas Oils & GT Bobcat involved with this event. Our ‘Spud’ race is a special event for the Series and its competitors. GT Bobcat has shown interest in 360’s since the All Star Series started and has followed what the series has been doing. They are also involved with USA driver Jason Johnson who won the ASCS 360 Series in America this season.” All Stars Promotoer Mandy Searle says.

And the great news is that Travis Rilat will be making it over all the way from America just for the Race.

When a bloke travels half way across the world to honour his mate you know they had a special friendship, but when he does it again 10 months later what can you say? Well that is exactly what Travis Rilat has done again to compete in the Tyson Perez Memorial this Saturday at Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier, SA.

Already an emotional tribute to honour the memory of one of Australia’s great Sprintcar devotees, the sight of Spud’s great mate lining up in the field will ensure there’s hardly a dry eye in the house.

Loved by all he knew him, including his best mate Rilat, Tyson Perez was an instantly recognisable part of Sprintcar furniture in Australia and the USA before he was tragically killed in a workshop accident in the US involving the two in 2010.

Rilat spent months recuperating from horrific injuries and his return to Sprintcar Racing since is nothing short of miraculous.

Lining up in the #USA29 for the Lucas Oils All Star Spud Memorial bought to you by GT Bobcat event, Rilat will contest a 31 lap main event that celebrates one lap for every year of Tyson’s life (he was 30 when he was killed) plus a “forever young” 1 lap in addition.

The race pays a handsome $3,000 to win. The field will feature some of the country’s best 360ci Sprintcar drivers.

Rilat will steer the #USA29 Paul Johnson owned and Phil Seymour supported entry on Saturday night. Those who knew Tyson, who know Rilat, and the friendship the duo shared, will understand the significance of the American lining up to honour his Aussie mate.

It’s going to be quite a night at the Mount and Spud would have loved this.

Lock the date in your calendar – February 2nd 2013. Borderline Speedway, Mt Gambier.
