SPEEDWAY LEGEND BILL WIGZELL PASSES AWAY

Sad news today that South Australian Speedway Legend Bill Wigzell passed away last night at the age of 82.

Bill will be sadly missed. Nick-named”The Wizard” he  brought much joy to Speedway Spectators Australia-wide competing in his sparkling purple Super Modified machine named “Suddenly” – SA 88. He competed against many great names including Gary Rush, Graham McCubbin, George Tatnell, Steve Brazier and Dick Britton to name a few.

Originally Bill started his racing career on motorbikes but then turned to Super Modifieds and then Sprintcars. He had a decorated career, wining the Australian Sprintcar Title in 1970 and the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic in 1974 and was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OoA) for his unrelenting services to Australian Speedway.

Never a shy man, Bill was always in the limelight and always willing to help others including fellow competitors.

Farewell Bill ! – may you look down upon us with joy for this and subsequent seasons.
