For the first time in its long and distinguished history, The Chariots of Thunder Series will be a 360 CI event and is being supported by two Major Sponsors this year:
- Allan King & Sons Construction and
- The Palmerston Hub
As in previous years the COT Series is run over two massive double header weekends and without the great support offered by Allan King and Sons Construction and The Palmerston Hub, the running of this Top End Classic Sprintcar event would not be possible.
Friday 24th and Saturday 25th August are the first two nights of the Chariots of Thunder Series which also doubles as the Darwin 360 Sprintcar Title , while the Series will see the final two nights of racing battled out on Friday 31st August and Saturday 1st September. The last two nights of COT racing will also double as the Northern Territory 360 Sprintcar Title. A huge $30,000 prize pool has been allocated to the four nights of racing and the winner of each Saturday night A-Main will bag a cool $5000 !
A strong field of local 360 Drivers will compete against seven interstate hopefulls. Local track experts and Father and Son racers Peter McIver and Jason McIver will be hard to beat having come 1-2 in the recent August 11th race meeting at Northine. But don’t discount the other local talent particularly Nick Halkitis and Mark King – indeed all are in with a show and capable of victory.
Hot interstate propositions that have a high chance of influencing the podium are Stephen Lines (Former Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic winner), Tony Moule (Former 360 National Champion) and rising WA 2011/12 Rookie Trent Pigdon.
Local NT nominations for the COT include:
- Mark King
- Peter McIver
- Jason McIver
- Nick Halkitis
- Jamie McInnes
- Mark Perry
- Troy King
- David Ling
- Stephen Ling
- Tom Britten
While Interstate nominations include:
- Brett Leslie (WA)
- Steven Lines (WA)
- Daniel Hawkins (WA)
- Domenic Maiolo (WA)
- Trent Pigdon (WA)
- Luke Robinson (WA)
- Tony Moule (ACT)
Racing points will be allocated based on heat performances and Preliminary A-Main result on the Friday night, plus heat performances on the Saturday night. The points accrued in this process will dictate the starting position for each respective Saturday A-Main.
Gates open at 4pm and racing is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm.
