In a stunning rebound from disaster, Minnesota’s Craig Dollansky has demonstrated what a great Driver he is and what a great Team backs him by taking victory in the World of Outlaws race at Lebanon Valley Speedway NY. (Sun 22 July)
Sure Craig has won many WoO races before but this one came off the back of his Williams Grove Disaster where he spun once, flipped twice and encountered a major fuel fire in his #7 Big Game Treestands entry in the A-Main just 24 hours earlier. The car was a wreck. Not to be discouraged, the Dollansky Team set about rebuilding the racecar and hauled their rig 6 hours from Williams Grove in PA to West Lebanon NY to complete and ultimately win the 51st race of the 2012 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Championship. It was Dollansky’s 50th World of Outlaws career victory, and his 3rd in the last 4 years at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
The Big Game Treestands Team had virtually zero sleep but they are well drilled and know what to do when putting together a race-winning car. And that is just what they did.
In the Lebanon Valley feature, Dollansky went high and slipped past polesitter Joey Saldana with 5 laps remaining. Earlier in the day the Team demonstrated the gift they have in car build-up by setting Quick Time with a 16.582 sec. Daryn Pitman was 2nd (16.629) and Joey Saldana 3rd (16.797). That would be the order the drivers crossed the flagstand after the 25 lap Feature Race as well.
Australia’s Kerry Madsen timed in 16th out of 23 cars. Madsen finished 9th in the A-Main after staring from P16. Cody Darrah who had taken victory at Williams Grove the night prior crossed the finish line in 5th after qualifying in 4th and placing 8th in his heat.
The KSE Hard Charger award went to Donny Schatz after starting P13 and coming home in P6.
There were 3 heats of 8 lap heats, with the top 5 transferring directly to the A-Main. Heat winners were Jessica Zemkin, Logan Schuchart and Tim Kaeding.
The Dash was won by Joey Saldana from Craig Dollansky, Lucas Wolf and Darren Pitman (first 4).
Current WoO Sprint car Series points leader Steve Kinser had an ordinary night qualifying in at 14th, coming 5th in his heat and then finishing 15th after starting 14th in the A-Main. This combined with Dollansky’s victory closed the points margin between the two Drivers to just 11 points. Schatz is in 3rd place (-23 behind Kinser), Sammy Swindell (-44), Joey Saldana (-49). Kerry Madsen remains in 7th place on the points tally 415 points behind Kinser.
The WoO Travelling Band now heads for their Canadian Swing encompassing Autodrome Granby on Friday 27th July, then Autodrome Drummond (28th), Cornwall Motor Speedway (29th) and finally Ohsweken Speedway (31st). They then swing back to Bloomington, and I-55 early August before the 52nd Knoxville Nationals on 8, 9, & 10th August.
