After some turbulent times in the last couple of seasons, Ryan Farrell has set his sights on getting his career to a higher level. With several moves to different teams in the last few seasons he is now set to plant his feet with Bunbury based Diamond Bay Motorsport.
The Team kicked off their campaign last season for the first time importing US hard charger Kaley Gharst in their debut season. With some strong finishes in the major events, the team have taken a new direction enlisting a local driver this time around.
Farrell has often being quoted as saying he classes Bunbury as his home track and will race all rounds of the Battery All Types Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series, local World Series Sprintcars events and the Krikke Boys Shootout.
There is also a strong possibility the team will contest the 2013 Australian 360 Sprintcar Championship at Bunbury with Farrell at the wheel.
Team Manager Steve Stathey said while signing Ryan up, they haven’t pushed Gharst aside. “ We have had a great relationship with Kaley, he’s like a member of our family and has got our team off to a great start building a strong foundation to work from,” he stated. “ We’ll look at running two cars after the new year and Kaley will get a drive for the major events here in the south west. It was a difficult decision to make for us, but, we think it will benefit our sponsors and our team.”
The Team have successfully enlisted a strong past speedway partner in Russell Hall and the Bunbury Auto Group entity. Mr Hall is excited at having Ryan back in Bunbury this season.
“I wouldn’t be supporting anyone else. We’ve had a great relationship over the years,” he said. “ The Diamond Bay team are a very professional outfit and I know my investment is sound. All the ingredients are there for a big and successful season.”
Team owner Paul Stathey is also looking forward to having the six time WA champion spear heading the assault. “ We’re extremely delighted to have Ryan with us. It’s going to be a big season ahead for the team and we’re really looking forward to racing this year. It will be good for the sport and for Ryan to be having a regular drive, especially at Bunbury,” he said.
