Last Thursday night (3/5/12) Jamie Maiolo triumphed by winning back-to-back Watsons Express Transport Sprintcar Track Championships for season racing at the Perth Moptorplex (Kwinana WA).
Jamie accrued a total of 1043 points for the season. Second was relative new-comer to Sprintcars Trent Pigdon just 72 points behind (971) and third in the Track Championship was Jamie’s younger brother Bradley Maiolo (962). Trent Pigdon just managed to separate the two Maiolo brothers from a one-two by 9 points.
Jamie Maiolo proved a model of consistency all season. He did not win a feature race during the contest, but managed to come 2nd on five occasions, and netted a total of ten Top Ten finishes. There was only one occasion in the 11 round series (round 12 was washed out) where Jamie was unable to cross the finish line with a DNF.
Trent Pigdon continues to impress with this new-comer blasting on the scene with great success. A fabulous 2nd place in the Christmas Cup at the famed downtown Kwinana Beach venue was inspirational and a massive confidence boost to the Pigdon Team – all done in the company of some very hot and respected competition.
Bradley Maiolo has built on earlier experiences and has now developed into a calculating, reliable driver with heaps of car speed. Bradley stopped the clock quickest on two separate occasions in time trials this season.
A total of 58 cars participated in the 11 rounds of racing for the Track Championship. It was one of the best Sprintcar Seasons ever staged at The Perth Motorplex – close, competitive racing was always on the program. This fact well and truly underpinned by virtue that the track dished up 8 different winners in the 11 rounds.
Congratulations to Jamie Maiolo, Trent Pigdon and Bradley Maiolo !
