Night one of the Scott Darley $50,000 to Win Sprintcar Challenge has seen Sydneys’ Garry Brazier triumph over current Grand Annual Classic Champion Ian Loudoun and former Australian Champion Max Dumesny at Sydney’s Tyrepower Speedway.
A total of 55 cars nominated for the prestigious event. At the end of the day 48 cars time trialed. Over an above time trials we saw 5 rounds of heats (10 laps) a C-Main (12 laps) , B-Main (15 laps) and of course a Preliminary night A-Main over 30 laps.
Quickest in Time Trial Qualifying was a surprise in Matt Young (#6) with a 12.504, 2nd was Martin Lawes (N50) with almost the same time – 12.509 and Robbie Farr (Q7) 3rd with 12.516.
Ian Loudoun timed in at P11 with a much slower 12.705 , while Brazier was 4th with a 12.540 and Dumesny 5th and right on Brazier’s clacker with 12.544 seconds.
Fancied American Shane Stewart made the haul across the Nullarbor from WA and piloted the #7 Monster Energy J&J instead of the usual Monte Motorsport #17. Stewart set 7th fastest with 12.616 seconds while Trevor Green (S4) was mid pack in P20 with a 12.851 seconds.
