The event is a two night deal and is the official re-run of the rain affected event back on 14th January this year. The race is an interesting concept where the Top Point Scorer after all Preliminaries from Nights 1 & 2 can elect to surrender the pole position that he/she has worked so hard for, and start from position 19 (In Memory of Scott Darley – Scott’s car number – #19) and thereby increase the winners purse possibilities from $10K to $50K.

Back in January USA’s Jason Meyers had qualified with top points on the opening night, in fact one point shy of a perfect score. The second night coped rain and the event didn’t advance past the preliminary stage. And that was after two failed attempts (weather related) to get the 2nd night in. This time around Jason will be a “no show” with racing commitments in the States preventing him from attending.
As this article is posted (7am Friday 16th March), we have to say weather conditions in Sydney don’t look great for the race. The forecast is for a chance of inland thunderstorms tonight and isolated thunderstorms for the evening and night for Saturday.
Let’s pray the “Thunder Gods” don’t influence the meeting again !
