21st Jan – 5 hours before night 1 starts
As part of The Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic lead-up festivities, organisers hold a special Fan Appreciation Day in the carpark of The Flying Horse Hotel in Warrnambool each year.
It’s always run on the morning of the first night of racing and a host of local, interstate and overseas drivers attend. Some are interviewed by Gavin White (Premier Speedway’s Resident Commentator) while beamed live on the big screen, while others drag their haulers to the venue and showcase their race cars. It’s a great opportunity for the crowd to get up close with the Drivers, have a chat, grab an autograph and even purchase some of the special merchandise on offer.
This year the crowd was the biggest I have seen. There would have been 2000 people in attendance when I was there, and the total number would have been far greater as people come and go during the 2 hour window.
Here’s some pictures from this morning’s display.
