Joey Saldana and Kasey Kahne Red Bull Racing take victory at Eldora

Joey Saldana driving the Kasey Kahne #9 Red Bull Maxim won a World of Outlaws Sprint sanctioned event for a second time in 2 days at Eldora Friday 23rd September. Joey cemented his status as a True Champion in Sprintcar Racing by starting off second pole on the half mile dirt track, leading the 30 laps to take the chequers.

The Kasey Kahne Red Bull Racing Team with Driver Joey Saldana in the #9 Maxim took out first place at Eldora on Friday Sept 23rd

2nd home was another Kasey Kahne Racing team car and best mate Paul McMahan in the #83 Roth entry. Jason Meyers was able to storm home to 3rd after starting from position 13, however there was an even bigger hard charger than that – Sam Hafetepe Jr started out of 20th position and worked hard gaining 13 positions to finish an incredible 7th spot. For that Sam was duly bestowed the Hard Charger Award for the night.

Second place went to Paul MacMahan in the Kasey Kahne Racing Roth #83 entry

Jason Meyers came home 3rd after starting out of 13 - stunning drive

Sam Hafetepe Jr was awarded Hard Charger - he started 20th and finished 7th - that was a pretty special effort

What can you say about Joey Saldana ! Not only did he win and pick up a cool $10,000 for the victory, but earlier in the evening he had set fast time at 12.785 seconds which was his 6th QT for the season ! Pretty Damn Good for someone that rode out a severe crash at the very same track 9 weeks ago (see previous post), was hospitalised and told his season was more than likely over. Brilliant effort Joey !

Joey Saldana won at Eldora in brilliant fashion - the second World of Outlaws A Main victory in 2 days after returning to racing after a 9 week layoff as a result of severe injuries sustained in a race accident at Eldora in July

Kerry Madsen in the Kenerick Racing PIHA entry had a reasonably good night. Madsen timed in 3rd quickest with a 12.862 and finished 9th overall after starting in 10.

Kerry Madsen set the 3rd quickest time in qualifying and came home in 9th position in the A Main

Joey accredited his fantastic win to a great Team effort from the Red Bull Kasey Kahne Racing camp and Jim Leo his personal trainer at PitFit who mentored and pushed him through the physio rehab program after the Eldora crash on September 17th .

It is interesting to note that Joey had been running Mopar power plants from as long back as 2006 and switched to Chevy for the Hartford Motor Speedway victory on Wednesday 21st September. So Joey Saldana has raced two WoO races since returning from injury and won both using new Chevy power in his Red Bull Maxim.

There were plenty of Joey Saldana Tee Shirts out in the crowd showing support for the Champion Driver

Nine World of Outlaws Sprint Races remain for this year’s series. Jason Meyers leads by 140 points from Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser a further 7 points behind. Joey Saldana is in 12th position in the Series having amassed 6 wins, but remember – he was out injured for 9 long weeks !

Donny Schatz is second to Jason Meyers in the WoO Series points following the Eldora meeting - 23rd September
