Kye Scroop Waves the Sprintcar Flag at Perth Motor Show 2011

Young West Australian Sprintcar Driver Kye Scroop recently waved the Sprintcar Flag by showcasing himself and his racecar at the Perth Motor Show. The show was held at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre on 19th, 20th and 21st August and included a variety of street, race and concept cars.

Kye willingly spent time with show patrons explaining the specifications of his car, describing the thrill of racing his “Winged Beast” and answering any questions.

Kye was amazed at the number of people who had never seen a Sprintcar full stop. Then there were patrons who had seen them on TV but not in real life, and of course there were also the legions of Speedway regulars who were fully familiar with what Sprintcar Racing is all about.

On the subject of 1st impressions Kye said “Those people that have only seen Sprintcar racing on TV couldn’t get over how big and high the top wing was – they reckoned the TV made them look small like a Go Kart. Many commented on how small the cockpit was and how hard it was to get in and out.”

Kye continued “We gave away over 2000 signed posters and the interest in the racecar was simply incredible. I even reckon that by showing the car and talking to the crowds, we may have created a stack of new Speedway followers for The Motorplex and other WA tracks ! Judging by the response we got, if there was a peoples pole for the Show, we would have won it easily”.

Unprecedented interest was generated in Kye Scroop & his Sprintcar being on display

During the 3 days Kye also helped kids to sit inside the car for photos. “The kids were wrapt, and so were the Mum’s & Dad’s” said Kye.

Kye’s car is an 88/40 Maxim and he uses a Scott Inglis 410 cubic inch Full Alloy engine. Kye said “It’s a great package. The engine and the frame work really well together and we have really good car speed. This year we intend to be right up the front where it counts. Scott Inglis is currently giving our engine a freshen up and we will have it back in a few weeks to bolt into the car and do some practice stuff.”

It wasn't only the boys that liked Kye and his car !

Kye is only 20 years old (turns 21 in Sept) and progressed straight from the Junior ranks (Junior Speedway Sedan Racing) all the way to the Premier class of “Sprintcars”.
